Deposits are rarely lost over the obvious things. Almost nobody hands back an apartment with a dirty floor. They lose it on the inside of the kitchen cabinets, the inside of the oven, and the window tracks — the three places a normal weekly clean has no reason to touch, and the three places an inspector goes first, because they are the fastest way to tell whether a place was actually cleaned or just tidied.
The reason move-out cleaning is its own service is that an empty home hides nothing. With the furniture gone, every mark the sofa was covering is visible, the floor has to be done as one surface rather than around obstacles, and every cabinet can be opened and looked into. The job is not harder than a deep clean, but it is a different list, and it is aimed squarely at what a walk-through checks.
Kitchens carry most of the risk. Every cabinet and drawer emptied, vacuumed out and washed — crumbs and sticky rings in the corners are the single most common note on an inspection report. The oven cleaned inside, including the door glass, the racks and the tray beneath the burners. The fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted, washed and left with the doors ajar so they do not sour. Behind and under the appliances, which is where a year of spills has quietly gone. Then the fronts, the handles and the tops of the units.
Bathrooms are the second. Grout scrubbed rather than mopped, limescale off the shower glass, the taps and the shower head descaled, the extractor vent cleared, the toilet done including the base and the fixings, and the cabinet interiors wiped out. A bathroom that smells clean and looks dull will pass; one that gleams but has a grey grout line will not.
Then the details, which is where most of the time actually goes: window sills and, more importantly, window tracks, where the grit collects. Blinds. Door frames and doors, especially around the handles. Switch plates and outlet covers. Skirting boards. Closet interiors and shelves. Radiators. Light fittings. Any picture hooks or adhesive residue on the walls. Finally the floors, vacuumed and mopped as the last thing that happens, working out of the apartment towards the door.
Two practical points. First, the place has to be empty when the crew arrives — a move-out clean cannot be done around boxes, and half-empty is the one condition guaranteed to produce a bad result. Second, get evidence. We walk the unit with you at the end, or send photographs of every room, so that if the deposit is questioned later you have something dated rather than an argument about memory.
